Dare I say, "Happy Spring"?
Can you believe this weather? It is supposed to be cold and snowy during calving season, and for the last three years (when of course, we do not have any cows to calve out) it has been wonderfully warm ! Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining - but I know, that as soon as my cow loving husband gets to walking again, he is buying back in to all of that hard work and then the winters will turn cold and blizzardy all over again! I keep looking over the fence at the neighbor's cows, calving out on dry ground, with the baby calves getting warm and dry in the bright sun and I think that this is the nicest February that I can remember for a very long time.
I am not tempted to trade my paper cutter and photos in for a spade and flower seeds just yet - I know that we are going to get some BIG snows before this is all over!  So scrapbooking supplies will still cover my table for a while longer and the seed catalogs will have to wait. I hope that you enjoy the selection of kits this month - we have everything from children's layouts, to vacation pages,  a stunning summer page and one of the winter pages, from a brand new designer,  that everyone has been requesting!  So let those snowflakes fly - we are ready for them! Check out the "Just Chillin" kit this month!
Things have been happening down here at Monday Night Class! For those of you who live in the Red Deer or Lethbridge area, we have new pick up locations to accommodate you! Scrapbooker's Paradise stores in these two cities will not only be pick up locations, but they will also be stocking kits in the stores. Having said that, you should be aware that these stores will only have the current month's kits on the shelf and they will be replaced with the following month's kits around the 20th of each month. So if you see something on the website, don't wait too long before you rush in to pick it up, or you may risk it being sold out. If you are a subscriber to Monday Night Class, the kits that are purchased at any of our partner stores do count towards your subscription. You are responsible for emailing or faxing a copy of the sales receipt, that shows the purchase of a Monday Night Class kit, to me and I will happily put the points in your file. You can fax your receipt to (403) 627-3694 or email it to cindy@mondaynightclass.ca  to save your points and have your kit count.
If you live in the Pincher Creek area or travel here for retreats  and wish to pick up Monday Night Class kits, the new drop off location is at Pincher Office Products on Main Street Pincher Creek. Christine and her staff will also have a selection of kits available in the store, starting this month.
Our great thanks go out to the staff and management of these locations for making this possible. We are working very hard to ensure that kits are available at many crops and scrapbooking events, as well as in as many stores as possible!  Check out our crazy schedule - I am sure that in the next few weeks, we will be seeing many of you in person as Christy and the girls travel all over Alberta and B.C. to scrapbooking events in Nakota, Okotoks, Victoria, Abbotsford, Calgary etc. Again, if you purchase kits at the events, send a copy of your receipt to me and have your points add up!!!
Here's hoping that the spring weather holds for a little longer, Cindy

The Common Misconceptions in Scrapbooking....
(Or at least ones that I will admit to have made).

I recently had a conversation with someone who is familiar with the scrapbooking world, but isn't a scrapbooker herself. She said she couldn't start scrapbooking, and then followed this statement with several reasons why it wasn't worth her while. Not all of her reasons made sense, but some were valid, and it got me thinking about the misconceptions about this hobby.
  • There are no mistakes in scrapbooking. We have all said this at some point, but let's face it, we have all seen a layout that in itself is a mistake. You know the one. It doesn't belong to you, and so it is okay to say it. But it is the one that is ridiculously overembellished. Or maybe it is so under embellished that is resembles nothing more than a photo on a piece of cardstock. Or what about the one that uses every single piece of paper, and embellishment that comes in a manufacturer's line..... You all know the layout.
  • Scrapbooking costs a fortune. No it doesn't! You just have to be sneaky about how you get your supplies. I, for one, often beg, borrow and steal from my friends, and they haven't figured it out yet! I don't see anything wrong in me using up their stash. Do you?
  • The point of this hobby is to get "caught up". No it isn't! If you are caught up, how will you fill those afternoons when all of your kids are either at school or down for a nap? Or those evenings when your husband is out with the guys? Housework??? Ridiculous. Never ever strive to be caught up. Never.
  • Non scrapbookers will appreciate your albums. Let's be real. They won't even read your journaling..... This includes your husband. (I know it includes mine!)
  • We are doing this for the future generations; for our children to have something too look back on. Yeah, right. We are doing this to get a BREAK from our children.....
  • That weekend retreats are nothing more than "Hen Parties". Wait. That is true. They often are. Nevermind.
